Saint Patrick’s Day

Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day! Here’s what’s going on around town on Saturday:

The morning will start with the Shamrock Shuffle 3K run/walk at 10:00 a.m. The Shamrock shuffle will start on the corner of Broadway and Short Street and it will end on Main Street.

At 12:30 p.m. there will be a concert with the Irish Army Pipe Band in front of Lexington History Museum. This will be the first time an Irish Army Pipe Band has been in Lexington and will be accompanied with some Irish step dancing.

The Lexington St. Patrick’s Day parade will begin at 1:00 p.m. It will start at the corner of Midland and Main and will be followed by an Irish heritage festival on Upper Street between Main and Vine.

At 7:30 p.m. An Dochas, Irish for “The Hope,” will be performing at the Singletary Center for the Arts. This young Irish Rock/World music band will be performing traditional Irish music with a twist of modern genres.

Did you know that Saint Patrick is reputed to have driven all the snakes from Ireland? I wonder if that included Sea Serpents? Find out more about sea serpents, lake monsters and more here!

Dig It!

Check out Robbert Bobbert & The Bubble Machine, the family project from Lexington’s own Rob Schneider! He’s released some great tracks on kid friendly compilations with The Apples in Stereo, including “Signal in the Sky (Let’s Go)” from The Powerpuff Girls: Heroes and Villains and a fantastic version of “Liza Jane” from Dimension Mix. Now he’s crafting tunes especially for kids. Though his full length album isn’t due out until fall of this year, it’s definitely worth previewing. Hear it and some other VERY fine releases at Little Monster Records’ website. Stand up and take notice, folks! I’m predicting this is gonna be one of the best kids’ releases this year.
