"The place where three really IS a magic number!" A radio program for kids and families that airs Saturdays from 9-10 AM EST on WRFL, 88.1 FM in Lexington KY.

Playlist 12/13/08

This week on Ages 3 and Up! we opened with songs which feature the singing saw, including “Sleepy Eyes” from Matt Clark’s Funny Little Fella (left), which I think is better than a baby book. Seriously. Nifty tunes about not eating squash and rolling- all chronicling his son Rowan’s first year. Pretty cool. Here’s what else we played:

Matt Clark– “Sleepy Eyes”- Funny Little Fella
Twink– “Rope Trick”- Supercute!
The Harmonica Pocket– “One Tree Said”- Ladybug One
David Zeitlin– “Lots of Worms”- Spin, Spider, Spin
Dog on Fleas– “Beautiful World”- Beautiful World
Fan Club Orchestra– “Mika Bubble Song”- v/a Childish Music
Lake– “On The Swing”- Oh, The Places We’ll Go
Broken Social Scene– “Puff The Magic Dragon”- v/a See You On the Moon!
Deerhunter– “Little Kids”- Microcastle
Me 3– “Doug the Mole”- The Thin King
Secret Agent 23 Skidoo– “Family Tree”- Easy
Kimya Dawson– “Wiggle My Tooth”- Alphabutt
Elizabeth Mitchell– “What Goes On”- You Are My Little Bird
Sufjan Stevens– “The Friendly Beasts”- v/a See You on the Moon!
Georgia and (or?) August Greenburg- “Jingle Bells”- Georgia and August Sing Songs For You
The Free Design– “Children’s Waltz”- Sing For Very Important People
Orriel Smith– “Tiffany Glass”- v/a Fuzzy Felt Folk

This is NOT a Dr. Seuss tribute album. It is, however, totally charming. Lake’s new album, Oh, The Places We’ll Go isn’t a kids’ record, at all. It’s just one I like. (One that happens to have an awesome song about being on a swing on it.) They’ve played a couple of times in Lexington this year and will be making another appearance at CPR on 12/21. Well worth checking out! E-mail me if you’d like details!

  1. I didn’t know there were so many songs featuring the singing saw! Do you know the singing saw Christmas CD ‘Hark! an Angel Sings’ (www.SawLady.com)? It also has different bells, like in the funny ‘Jingle COWbells’ 🙂

  2. Yeah, it’s funny… when you start looking for it, it turns up everywhere. Did you ever see Delicatessen? The saw in the end of that movie got me hooked. SO pretty.Best!
